FATF reaffirms support for West Africa’s fight against money laundering, terrorism financing

ACCRA, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) — The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) will continue to support West Africa’s efforts to fight money laundering and terrorism financing, FATF President Elisa de Anda Madrazo pledged on Tuesday.\

Addressing the FATF/Inter-Governmental Action Group Joint Experts Meeting in Accra, the Ghanaian capital, Madrazo said one of her top priorities is to foster the cohesion of the global network through enhanced efforts for partnership.

“As president of the FATF, I want to reaffirm our support for West Africa’s efforts to build robust and effective anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing frameworks,” she said in a pre-recorded speech.

According to Madrazo, the threats of money laundering and terrorism financing globally are serious and ever-evolving, destabilizing communities and undermining peace and security. These challenges demand a united, strategic, and operational response.

The meeting brought together experts from law enforcement agencies, customs officials, and representatives from financial intelligence units to deliberate on the two complementary themes of “Trade-Based Financial Crime” and “Terrorist Financing.”  Enditem
