“Ghana is back..working again,” President Mahama declares, urging compatriots to fasten seatbelt for take-off

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama delivered the state of the nation address in parliament on Friday, declaring that the country’s economy is back on track after the recent crippling crisis from the end of 2021 to 2024.

Mahama said the economy has been stabilizing over the period of January 2025 and last month, and returning to growth through tough measures adopted by his government.

“Mr. Speaker, I told this august House when I appeared before you last year that we would have to take tough, prudent, and necessary decisions to restore stability and credibility. Today, I can say with confidence: Ghana is back. Ghana is working again,” the president declared, adding that Ghana is now ready for business.

Achieving macroeconomic stability so far has not been easy, according to the president: “I was clear from the outset that recovery would not come easily, but I was also clear that I would stop at nothing to turn this situation around and bring relief to Ghanaians.”

Tough decisions, according to him, were the necessary building blocks for recovery and the current level of stability the country is enjoying.

He described the West African country as resilient and on a path of renewal, highlighting that nations go through trying times, but their resilience comes from refusal to give up.

“Nations endure not because they are spared trial, but because their people refuse to surrender to trial. Ghana has been tested before. We did not surrender. We will not surrender now,” Mahama reiterated.

He added, “The state of Ghana is resilient. Our nation’s state is renewing, and it is firmly in the hands of its people. We are on the verge of takeoff, and so, ladies and gentlemen, to my passengers, fasten your seat belts.”
