MTN Ghana named 2026 Africa PMO of the Year, advances to world PMO of the Year final

MTN Ghana has been named 2026 Africa PMO of the Year by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and has advanced as one of five finalists globally for the prestigious 2026 World PMO of the Year Award.

The recognition marks MTN Ghana’s second consecutive Africa PMO of the Year win, following its 2025 success, and further cements the company’s position as a leader in project, programme and portfolio management on the continent.

This latest achievement reflects the continued maturity of MTN Ghana’s project and transformation capabilities, as well as its commitment to translating strategy into disciplined execution, measurable outcomes and sustainable value for customers, shareholders and communities.

Commenting on the recognition, William Tetteh, Chief Transformation Officer of MTN Ghana, said: Being named Africa PMO of the Year for the second consecutive year is a significant recognition of the work our people continue to do across MTN Ghana. It reflects the strength of our governance, the capability of our project professionals and the collaboration that enables us to translate strategic ambition into tangible outcomes for our customers, our business and Ghana.”

“For us, project management is ultimately about value creation. The true measure of success is not only whether projects are delivered, but whether they improve customer experience, strengthen business performance, enhance operational efficiency and contribute meaningfully to the communities we serve.” He added.

The recognition reflects the collective effort of teams across the MTN Ghana business, including FinTech, project sponsors, business owners, project professionals, cross-functional teams and delivery partners who continue to drive successful execution across the organisation.

MTN Ghana’s transformation journey has been built on a deliberate strategy to strengthen project, programme and portfolio management capability, evolving the role of the Transformation Division beyond traditional project oversight into a strategic execution and value-delivery function.

This evolution has enhanced portfolio governance, prioritisation, benefits realisation, delivery discipline and local capability development, enabling the business to successfully execute increasingly complex technology and transformation initiatives.

The award also follows a series of significant recognitions for MTN Ghana’s project management excellence. Earlier this year, the company received the PMI Excellence Award for PMO of the Year, becoming the first organisation in Africa to earn the distinction.

In addition, MTN Ghana won six awards at the 2026 National Project Management Conference and Project Management Excellence Awards, organised by the PMI Ghana Chapter, in recognition of its excellence in project delivery, telecommunications infrastructure, technology development, project governance and leadership. Together with its 2024 Excellence Distinction for Diversity and Inclusion Practices and back-to-back Africa PMO of the Year titles, these accolades underscore MTN Ghana’s position as a benchmark for project management excellence in Ghana, Africa and globally.

As the 2026 Africa PMO of the Year, MTN Ghana will now represent the continent as one of five finalists for the 2026 World PMO of the Year Award, competing alongside leading organisations from around the world for PMI’s highest PMO recognition.

The global recognition comes at a significant moment as MTN Ghana celebrates 30 years ofoperations in Ghana, highlighting the role of strong execution, technology investment and local capability development in supporting the company’s growth and contribution to the country’s digital transformation agenda.

Looking ahead, MTN Ghana remains committed to strengthening its execution capability, developing local talent and leveraging technology and connectivity as a force for good in creating sustainable value for customers, communities and the nation.
