Ghana launched a new service system on Wednesday to expand e-governance processes, making services related to national security, migration management, and citizens’ rights digitally accessible.
The Interior (homeland security) Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who launched the system, said the Ministry of the Interior Online Digital Services Portal directly supports the government’s vision of a modern, secure, and inclusive digital economy, one in which public services are accessible, transparent, and responsive to the needs of every Ghanaian.
Mohammed-Mubarak added that the initiative forms part of the government’s wider e-governance drive and aims to remove long-standing delays that affect applicants.
“Core citizenship services, including immigration quota permits, renunciation of citizenship, dual nationality applications, and registration as a citizen of Ghana, will now be handled on the new digital portal,” Mohammed-Mubarak announced during a press briefing.
For many years, the minister said, important services offered by the ministry that support national security, public safety, migration management, business activities, and the protection of citizens’ rights have mostly depended on slow, paper-based methods, which caused delays, created problems in administration, and made it harder for applicants.
“The new digital services portal directly addresses these challenges. It modernizes our operations, strengthens data integrity and security, and provides end-to-end digital access to our most frequently used services,” he added.
He added, “With this launch, we take a decisive step towards a more efficient, transparent, and citizen-centered ministry fully aligned with the government’s commitment to building a forward-looking, technology-driven public sector.”
