As part of the 2025 MTN 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign, MTN Ghana is collaborating with the Opportunity Industrialization Technical Institute (OITI) in Accra and Uni Jay Limited in Kumasi to produce 500 school uniforms for students at Adzitem D.A. Basic School, located in the Central Region, as well as for several deprived schools in the Ashanti, Northern, and Western regions.
This initiative is part of MTN’s broader commitment to education and the development of digital skills, and it is being led by MTN Ghana’s CEO, Stephen Blewett.
Blewett volunteered his time at the OITI, where he inspected a guard of honor mounted by the students. He also toured the institute’s facilities, including the digital labs. As part of his visit, the CEO took a turn to help sew a uniform for a school child.
During the event, Mr. Blewett shared insights on how technology is transforming Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana. He emphasized that the country’s progress relies on empowering more young people with technical skills, stating, “The future lies in vocational and technical expertise. The world doesn’t need more CEOs; it needs people who can create and build with their hands.”
In addition to sewing uniforms for the beneficiary schools, MTN Ghana employee volunteers are extending their services to communities such as Torgome in the Volta Region and Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region. In Torgome, volunteers helped onboard residents onto the MyMTN App and mCare platforms.
They will also help construct and equip a shed with modern tools for local women engaged in pottery. In Nyinahin, young people are receiving training in mobile phone repairs to improve their livelihoods and promote digital access and inclusion.
The 21 Days of Y’ello Care is an annual employee volunteerism campaign by MTN Group, encouraging staff to participate in impactful community development projects across MTN’s operating countries. Launched in 2007, this initiative has positively impacted the lives of many people across the continent.
