Ghana needs 12.2bln USD for Climate Change mitigation, adaptation strategies : finance minister

Ghana needs at least 12. 2 billion U.S. dollars for the implementation of its Climate Change mitigation and adaptation strategies, finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta has said.

Ofori-Atta said this  on Tuesday during the 19th International Conference on Inclusive Insurance (ICII), taking place in the Ghanaian capital.

Of that amount, the minister said 4.1 bn dollars should be internally generated while the other portion comes from external sources.

Ofori-Atta noted that climate change has been having adverse impact on the country’s poor and vulnerable, underscoring the need for insurance protection for this segment of the population   against climate change impacts and other disasters.

He urged the insurance industry to partner the government on finding ways to ensure that Ghanaians in the low-income brackets are protected through inclusive insurance.

“We need to ensure that insurance particularly inclusive insurance is integrated into all that we do,” the minister urged.
