The Ghana Statistical Service said Wednesday that the country’s economy grew 7.5 percent in January 2026, 0.7 percentage points lower than the same period in 2025.
Addressing a press briefing on the monthly growth rate in Accra, the capital of Ghana, Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu said the services sector mainly drove the growth.
“The services sector recorded a growth of 9.6 percent in January 2026, compared to 7.7 percent in January 2025, driven largely by the education and information and communication subsectors,” Iddrisu said.
He added that the industry sector recorded a growth of 7.2 percent in January 2026, compared to 9.7 percent in the previous January.
“Economic activities in agriculture grew by 4.5 percent, compared to 9.3 percent in January 2025. This figure indicates that the agriculture sector experienced a decline in performance compared to January 2025, reflecting a moderation in growth momentum,” Iddrisu added.
For sector-by-sector contributions to the overall growth, the government statistician said the services sector contributed 54.3 percent, industry accounted for 29 percent, and agriculture accounted for 14 percent of the overall 7.5 percent expansion, respectively.
