Ghanaians mourn passing of technology icon

Ghanaians woke up on Sunday morning to the devastating news of the passing of  technologist, inventor, and manufacturer Kwadwo Safo.

A  statement by his family and church said early Sunday that the the inventor of the Kantanka brand of automobiles, philanthropist, religious leader, and agriculturist, died last Thursday.

“With profound sorrow and deepest grief, the Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church announce the peaceful passing of Ghana’s beloved man of God, the greatest technological icon, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist popularly referred to as ‘Kantanka, the African Star,’” the statement said.

Safo came into the limelight in the 1990s through the exhibition of his personal inventions, including vehicle brands and electronic appliances, as well as through the donation of tons of foodstuffs to state institutions such as schools, prisons, and orphanages.

In 2014, the government, through its agencies, granted the certification and licenses for his Kantanka vehicle brands, produced in conjunction with the Chongqing Big Science and Technology Group from Chongqing, China, to be sold in Ghana
