The Ethiopian Airlines launched its new passenger flight service to Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Sunday evening.
The new route will operate four times weekly and be served by Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the airline’s chief operating officer, Retta Melaku, told a launching event.
The new service complements the company’s existing cargo operations and strengthens its connectivity to the Middle East, providing more opportunities to explore the UAE’s rich cultural heritage and dynamic business landscape, he said.
Noting that the Ethiopian Airlines operates over 120 weekly passenger and cargo flights to about 13 destinations in the region, Melaku said the new route is designed to offer seamless global connectivity to and from Sharjah.
The airline launched its first flights to the region in 1979, to Dubai, UAE. Melaku said the Ethiopian Airlines is preparing to resume flights to Abu Dhabi, another UAE city, in July, after a suspension of more than 10 years.
