STOP PRESS! Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng falls

Veteran Ghanaian journalist Nana Kwasi Gyan Apenteng has passed away at age 74, reports said on Tuesday morning.

The reports said Nana Gyan-Apenteng, a towering figure in the Ghanaian and international media, died on Monday at a hospital in London after a short illness.

He was a former editor and columnist of The Mirror weekly newspaper, and Apagyahene of  Tafo Eti in the Eastern Region. of Ghana.

The late media giant also served as a deputy editor of the erstwhile London-based West Africa magazine in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and chairman of the National Media Commission from 2013 to 2018.

Nana Gyan-Apenteng worked with the Third World Network as head of the non-governmental organization’s communication unit and editor of its monthly magazine, Africa Agenda.  

 He also worked as a communication consultant, working closely with several corporate, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, including: MTN, some UN agencies, the Media Foundation for West Africa, and STAR Ghana.

Nana Gyan-Apenteng was an alumnus of Apam Secondary School and the University of Ghana, Legon. He is survived by six children.

“His wisdom, humility, and deep sense of purpose touched countless lives,” said MTN in a brief release.

Family sources say the funeral arrangements will be announced later.
