Ghana’s leading mobile telecommunication service provider MTN has assured its customers of the safety of its mobile money (Momo) service.
In a statement on Monday, MTN rejected suggestions that its systems had been compromised in the recent cyber attack on some of itsplatforms.
“We want to clarify that this information is completely misleading, untrue and, in some instances, potentially mischievous,” said the statement.
The statement added that the cybersecurity incident has not impacted on the operation or security of the MTN mobile money systems, adding that MobileMoney LTD operates with robust security protocols and continuously monitors its environment to enhance system integrity.
The MoMo platform utilizes industry-leading security measures, including end-to-end encryption, multi-factor authentication, and ongoing monitoring to detect and prevent fraudulent activity, added the statement.
Moreover, it said the company collaborates closely with regulatory authorities, cybersecurity experts, and partner institutions to uphold the highest safety standards.
“No customers have lost any of their money as a result of the cybersecurity incident; our mobile money platform remains safe and secure, and customer funds are protected,” MTN stated.
