Ghanaian president appoints ex-journo as BoG 2nd deputy governor

In an unprecedented move, Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama on Monday appointed a former broadcaster to the 3rd most important position at Bank of Ghana, a release has said.

Mahama appointed Matilda Asante-Asiedu, a former news anchor and news editor at Joy fm, and now a professional banker, as Second Deputy Governor of the central bank.

Asante-Asiedu replaces Elsie Addo Awadzie, who resigned from the position in February, with a year left on her contract.

The newly appointed official is a Chartered Banker and an experienced manager who has served as Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana PLC.

Tilly, as she is affectionately referred to in the media, holds an MBA in Marketing from the GIMPA Business School (2021) and an MA in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University (2005), and other professional and executive qualifications.
