IMF congratulates Ghana’s new finance minister

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has welcomed Ghana’s new Minister for Finance, Mohammed Amin Adams, in a letter issued in Washington, DC, on Thursday.

In the letter sent to Ghanaian media on Friday, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva assured the new minister of the Fund’s continued commitment to support Ghana’s endeavors in economic reform.

“Your leadership will be essential in sustaining Ghana’s reform effort and in further extending the current momentum of compelling program performance and gradual economic stabilization,” said the letter.

Adams assumed duty on Thursday as the new finance minister after a cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday removed Ken Ofori-Atta, who has been in the saddle since January 2017.

Adams holds a Ph.D. in Energy and Petroleum Economics (2014) from the University of Dundee, Center for Energy, Petroleum, and Mineral Law and Policy, Britain.

Last month, the IMF approved 600 million dollars in funding under a 3-billion-dollar bailout program to help bolster Ghana’s ailing economy.
